On Sunday October 2nd 2016, SHPE-GSFV hosted their first event with their new executive board. SHPE-GSFV counted with the presence of professionals from the area, professionals from SHPE-LA as well as SHPE- South Bay. This fall kick off was a way for the professional chapter to network with students and professionals alike in order to work in unison to accomplish the goals set for our chapter and assist with the goals of student chapters. Professional presence and mentorship is one key aspect to student retention in a STEM career and for SHPE growth. One key objective for SHPE-GSFV this year is to create a pipeline from student to professional chapter involvement as some would say “with great power comes great responsibility” and we believe being a professional comes with great social responsibility. We were once students navigating through the educational pipeline and now as professionals giving back and mentoring the future generation of engineers and scientists comes with a great and very rewarding experience. I would like to thank the student chapters who were present and shared with our audience the goals for their respective chapters. The student chapters that were present in our fall kick off include: SHPE-CSUN, SHPE-COC, SHPE-LAMC, SHPE-CSULA, SHPE-CSULB, SHPE-MTSAC, SHPE-GLENDALE & SHPE-STONY BROOK. We look forward to working with our local student chapters as well as assist SHPE chapters in our region. Thank you, Neftali Aguilera, President of SHPE-GSFV
